Elias Piggin of Derby | George Piggins, framework-knitter born c. 23 November 1807, Parish of St Alkmund, town of Derby, son of Elias served 1825-1844 in 45th Foot Regiment, incl. 12 years in India married Marion Coomes, widow, 3 Nov 1845, St Peter's Derby Emigrated to New Zealand as fencible private on Berhampore March-June 1849 with one child. The Berhampore website lists an additional child called Marion but this appears to be an error. Cf. another list They settled at Onehunga. George died 1855 May 1 (Kendall index erroneously gives May 8). His family lived for a time in Coromandel, then returned to Auckland. All descendants spell the name "Piggins" |
